Day of rest for the men. Went to Cairo and visited several mosques and the Tomb of the Caliphs and at 5.30 went to the Washington’s Birthday Reception at the American Diplomatic Agency.

In mastaba 2083 we have been clearing shafts A to G of sand and underlying dark debris. On the edge of shaft A were three rough pottery jars with pointed ends. Along the East front of 2085 [= G 3085] is sand and underlying hard packed rubble debris. Shafts B and C of 2085 [= G 3085] contain sand and dark debris. In C was an offering slab, broken. Between this mastaba and that to the west (2088 [= G 3088]), is sand. Chamber X of 2085 [= G 3085] is filled with sand. In mastaba 2084 [= G 3084] are shafts which are filled with sand and underlying dark debris. Shafts E and F were afterwards found to belong to another mastaba and renumbered. Between 2084 [= G 3084] and 2086 [= G 3086] is a long narrow passage and small rooms which are filled with sand and dark rubble debris. An Arabic (?) rubble wall was built across the south end of this passage. In the south east corner of the large chamber at the south end of the passage were fragments of a large red polished stand, pierced with triangular holes, also fragments of a smaller similar stand, …
