Cloth mummy wrappings: linen garment

Linen garment with selvedge, [consists of two strips of linen, originally white but now yellow or brown; two halves of shroud originally attached with long coarse stitches (about .8 cm from edge) at both sides to form cylindrical wrapping, original stitches only indicated by small needle holes in cloth, sides of shroud joined by small independent "cobbles" of "over and under" stitches about 25 cm apart, fringe at foot end consists of short cords (knotted 1 cm from outer end) fastened to edge of linen, selvedge edge near fringe consists of three wide flat threads (parallel to edge) woven through very fine cylindrical threads, bulk of cloth woven of warp and woof cylindrical threads of equal size, ancient hole darned fairly neatly (double thread used in warp and double or triple use in woof, simple knot made at end of sewing thread); shroud around body secured by band of linen (of same texture as shroud) passed round several times and knotted to form one strip down body front and back and four across body, and passed round several times at feet (large fold of cloth at feet secured by twisting band round it three times and tying reef-knot), other knots in band consist of three reef-knots, one (?) "granny-knot", and one complicated knot consisting of loop through which end of band passed and tied into simple knot on loop (loop itself formed one of four ends of double reef-knot)].
